Johnny Curtis Young otherwise known as Punkin was born July 9, 1949 in Claremore at the Indian Hospital. He grew up in Tulsa, Ok. Punkin left this earth on January 24, 2024 at 74 years of age. His birth mother was Ima Jean "Tootsie" Morgan and raised by his other mother Rosalie Tanner and John "Boy" Tanner. He grew up with his Brother and best friend Don White. Johnny graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1966. He worked at Jim's Paint & Body as a young man and later became bus driver then tour manager for Asleep At The Wheel, Johnny Rodriguez, alongside his brother, then 23 years as tour manager for Dwight Yoakam. When they were between shows he stayed at the Sportsman's Lodge in L.A. He was so revered there they gave him his own parking spot. After graduating he joined the army for a brief period. He was a "larger than life" character, known by many worldwide for his wit, his humor and his loyalty to family and friends. There was no one quite like him. He took care of business professionally and personally and he never backed down. He lived his life on his terms in a big way. Men wanted to be like him and the women loved him. Punkin retired at Grand Lake Oklahoma. Ironic for a person who didn't swim, didn't fish and didn't care much for boating. What he did enjoy was mixing it up with his new lake friends. He lived a fuller life than a typical life would hold. Survived by his brother Don White and sister in law Debi Holcomb-White of Tulsa, nephew Stephen White of Tulsa, great niece Lindsey White of Tulsa, great nephew Cory White of Tulsa, great-great nephew Ethan Warfel, three nieces and many cousins. Memorial Service will be 2PM, Friday, February 2, 2023 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233 Resource:Moore Funeral Home |
